Revalidation of EASA Examiner ✈️

By the definition by Part FCL - the revalidation Examiner certificate means the administrative action taken within the period of validity of a certificate which allows the holder to continue to exercise the privileges of certificate for a further specified period consequent upon the fulfilment of specified requirements. Revalidation of all EASA Examiner certificates is very similar. 

All of the EASA Examiner certificates have a validity period of 36 months and need to be revalidated to keep them current. 

Cross credit of Examiner qualifications

If applicants for the revalidation of Examiner certificate hold privileges for more than one category of examiner, all examiner privileges may be revalidated if applicants comply with the requirements for one of the categories of examiner certificates held, in agreement with the competent authority.

This means if you hold even all possible examiner certificates, all of them could be revalidated by meeting the revalidation requirements for one.

✅ Example of cross credit

Let's imagine you hold following certificates - FE(A)CRE SEP(land)CRE MEP(land) and TRE CL65. By meeting the revalidation criteria - e.g. you have done

  • 2 PPL exams,
  • 2 proficiency checks SEP(land) and
  • 2 skill tests MEP(land)

All your Examiner certificates will be revalidated eventhough you have not done any checkride on CL65 as TRE.

Validity of EASA Examiner

In accordance with FCL.1025(a) the validity of all the EASA Examiner certificates is 3 years (36 months).

Examiner revalidation conditions

To revalidate an examiner certificate, holders shall comply with all of the conditions required by FCL.1025(b) as follows:

  • before the expiry date of the Examiner certificate, have conducted at least six checkrides - skill tests, proficiency checks or assessments of competence;
  • in the period of 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the Examiner certificate, have completed an examiner refresher course which is provided by the competent authority or by an ATO;
  • one of the skill tests, proficiency checks or assessments of competence shall take place in the period of 12 months immediately preceding the expiry date of the examiner certificate and shall:
    • have been assessed by a senior examiner; or
    • comply with the requirements in point FCL.1020.
