Flight instructor examiner renewal
Part 1178/2011 FCL does not prescribe flight training for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate renewal. The flight instructor examiner renewal procedure is very similar to the flight instructor examiner revalidation procedure. Part FCL, however, requires that a flight school provides a examiner refresh course, also called examiner standardization course.
To renew flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate, it is necessary to meet Part FCL, statute FCL.1025. Pursuant to FCL.1025(a), the standard length of flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate validity is 3 years.
In other words, the process of flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate renewal is similar to the process of flight instructor examiner revalidation. However, the renewal procedures do not require the minimum number of flight exams. Thus no minimum amount of instructor assessments of competence is required for the renewal of the flight instructor examiner certificate.
Pursuant to FCL.1025(b), flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) competence validity will be renewed if, within the 12 months of competence validity renewal, the instrument rating examiner:
- undertook a examiner standardization course for flight instructor examiners - FIE(A) provided by an EASA ATO - flight school
- undertook one examiner assessment of competence under the national aviation authority inspector's supervision or the senior examiner's supervision.
