Flight instructor examiner - FIE(A)

Flight training in order to obtain flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate for flight instructor - FI(A)class rating instructor - CRI(A) and instrument rating instructor - IRI(A) applicants must be provided by a flight school - ATO in accordance with an approved examiner training course. Examiner training generally consists of theoretical knowledge instruction as well as practical part. Flight training in order to obtain flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) competence is usually called examiner standardization course.

Flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) requirements

A flight instructor examiner FIE(A) candidate must meet requirements outlined in Regulation No 1178/2011, Part FCL - FCL.1010 and AMC1 FCL.1010.

Pursuant to FCL.1005.FIE, the flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate holder can administer assessments of competence - AOC for flight instructor FI(A) and respective FI(A) privileges extension to CRI, IRI or FIC privileges.

An essential requirement for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) candidate for flight instructor - FI(A) privileges is that they already hold flight instructor - FI(A) certificate.

According to the FCL.1010.FIE, minimum requirements for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A)  candidate with flight instructor - FI(A) privileges are:

  • holder of flight instructor - FI(A) certificate
  • at least 2000 flight hours as a pilot in command on either airplanes or tourist motor gliders
  • at least 100 flight hours as a flight instructor - FI(A) during the flight training

An essential requirement for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) candidate with flight instructor - FI(A) privileges is that he already holds a flight instructor - FI(A) certificate with privileges for single-pilot aircraft.

Flight instructor examiner FIE(A) for IRI(A)

An essential requirement for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) candidate with instrument rating instructor - IRI(A) privileges is that they already hold a flight instructor - FI(A) certificate with privileges to provide IFR flight training pursuant to FCL.905.FI(g), or they hold an instrument rating instructor - IRI(A)  certificate.

Flight instructor examiner FIE(A) for CRI(A)

An essential requirement for flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate withflight instructor - FI(A)class rating instructor - CRI(A)  privileges is that they already hold a flight instructor - FI(A)class rating instructor - CRI(A)  for the approprate aircraft class, for example single-engine piston  - SEP(land) aircraft or multi-engine piston - MEP(land) aircraft.

Flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) training

Flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) candidates must undertake a flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) standardization training in accordance with FCL.1015. The standardization training course can be provided either by a competent - national aviation authority or by an EASA flight school - ATO.

The flight examiner standardization course consists of theoretical knowledge instruction - groundschool as well as practical part and includes at least:

  • training focused on legal requirements, regulations, operations, and documentations of assessments of competence AoC;
  • training focused on state-level administrative procedures, GDPR, responsibilities, and insurance;
  • training focused on procedures in case examiner assessment of competence - AoC is provided by a flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) from a different country than the applicant's country of issuance - state of license issue - SOLI;
  • explanation on how to access all the aforementioned documents in case of need.

Flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate holders must not administer assessments of competence (AoC) in case their state of license issue - SOLI differs from the applicant's state of license issue - SOLI, unless the flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) is familiar with up to date information concerning state-level procedures of the applicant's state of license issue - SOLI.

Flight instructor examiner – FIE(A) assessment of competence

After finishing the examiner training, the flight instructor examiner applicant has to pass the examiner assessments of competence in order to obtain the flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) certificate.

Pursuant to FCL.1020, the flight instructor examiner - FIE(A) candidate must demonstrate his skills, proficiency and competences to an national aviation authority inspector or a senior examiner, who is authorized to administer the examiner assessment of competence by a respective national aviation authority to provide assessment of competence - AoC.

ICAO English Exam can become a part of examiner assessment of competence. We offer this option with our partner company Aero Language.
